Around Chesham by Lalage Smyth, member of the Photography and Digital Imaging Groups
Welcome to the website of Chess Valley u3a
Operating in and around Chesham in Buckinghamshire, we offer a wide range of activities for those in their ‘third age’, when they are no longer working full time and are able to pursue other interests.
Our members take part in activities ranging from Art to Wildlife, with books, dinghy sailing, French, history and a lot more in between.
We also arrange visits to places of interest and each month have a General Meeting, open to all members, with a very diverse variety of interesting speakers.
Our last General Meeting of 2022 is on Thursday 8th November 2022 starting at 2pm when our speaker will be David Coulton whose talk is entitled Gordon Bennett: From a Scottish Crofter to a Multi-Millionaire and Playboy. David retired first after 30+ years in corporate finance, then bought a company and retired again, finally, at 70 after turning it around. David's talk covers the amazing life of James Gordon Bennett Jr, his newspaper empire and the expeditions he funded. Bennet has been described as a man who nearly changed world history. The venue for this talk is the Council Chamber in Chesham Town Hall.
If you are not currently a member of Chess Valley u3a and would like to sample a General Meeting and learn more about us, please come along and you will receive a warm welcome.
Until 30th November 2022, our Photography Group has an exhibition at the Elgiva Theatre in Chesham. Its theme is The Chess Valley and its Environs, admission is free and it is open daily from 10:30am to 3:00pm.
