Around Chesham by Lalage Smyth, member of the Photography and Digital Imaging Groups

Welcome to the website of Chess Valley u3a

Operating in and around Chesham in Buckinghamshire, we offer a wide range of activities for those in their ‘third age’, when they are no longer working full time and are able to pursue other interests.

Our members take part in activities ranging from Art to Wildlife, with books, dinghy sailing, French, history and a lot more in between.

We also arrange visits to places of interest and each month have a General Meeting, open to all members, with a very diverse variety of interesting speakers.

Our next General Meeting is on Thursday 9th February 2023 starting at 2pm when our speaker will be Anthony Poulton-Smith with his talk entitled Silk Routes. Anthony is a freelance journalist and author with 85 books to his name and he last spoke to us about Christmas in 2020. This time, he will be talking about the original trade routes for salt, this precious commodity, why they existed and why they are still used to this day. More than just a travel history, the talk also encompasses how salt has found its way into our culture, language and folklore. The venue for this talk is the Council Chamber in Chesham Town Hall.

If you are not currently a member of Chess Valley u3a and would like to sample a General Meeting and learn more about us, please come along and you will receive a warm welcome.

Best wishes
