Around Chesham by Lalage Smyth, member of the Photography and Digital Imaging Groups

Welcome to the website of Chess Valley u3a

Operating in and around Chesham in Buckinghamshire, we offer a wide range of activities for those in their ‘third age’, when they are no longer working full time and are able to pursue other interests.

Our members take part in activities ranging from Art to Wildlife, with books, dinghy sailing, French, history and a lot more in between.

Our next Monthly talk is on Thursday 13th June, starting at 2pm, when our speaker will be Jem Duducu with The History of the Ottoman Empire from 1299 to 1922. Jem has loved history for as long as he can remember. He read Archaeology and Medieval History at Cardiff University and is the author of several history books from the '100 Facts' series for Amberley, along with 'Deus Vault' and 'The Sultans'. Jem will chart the rise and fall of the Ottoman dynasty, from the forgotten Sultan Murad IV to the most famous rulers such as Suleiman the Magnificent, with his talk covering world-changing events such as the Fall of Constantinople in 1453.

The June talk will be preceded by the 16th Annual General Meeting of Chess Valley u3a.

The venue for this meeting is the Broadway Baptist Church in Chesham Broadway, which is wheelchair-accessible and equipped with a hearing loop.

If you are not currently a member of Chess Valley u3a and would like to sample a monthly talk and learn more about us, please come along and you will receive a warm welcome.

Best wishes
